Defination of lathe machine its parts and opertion

Definition of Lathe machine

A lathe machine is a machine tool which is used to remove metals from a work piece to give a desired shape and size. In other words it is a machine that is used to hold the work piece to perform various metal removing operations such as turning, grooving, chamfering, knurling, facing, forming etc with the help of tools.

What is the use of lathe machine?
A lathe is a tool that rotates the work piece about an axis of rotation to perform various operations such as cutting, sanding, knurling, drilling, deformation, facing, turning, with tools that are applied to the work piece to create an object with symmetry about that axis.
OPERTIONS ON LATHE MACHINE:
What is turning on a lathe?
The turning process requires a turning machine or lathe, work piece, fixture, and cutting tool. The work piece is a piece of pre-shaped material that is secured to the fixture, which itself is attached to the turning machine, and allowed to rotate at high speeds.
What is chamfering process on a lathe?
Chamfering: Chamfering removes the burrs and sharp edges, and thus makes the handling safe. Chamfering can be done by a form tool having angle equal to chamfer which is generally kept at 45°.
What is facing on a lathe machine?
Facing is a lathe operation in which the cutting tool removes metal from the end of the work piece or a shoulder. Facing is a machine operation where the work is rotated against a single point tool. A work piece may be held in a 3, 4, or 6 jaw chuck, collets or a face plate.
What is grooving on a lathe?
Groove cutting on CNC lathes is a multi step machining operation. The term grooving usually applies to a process of forming a narrow cavity of a certain depth, on a cylinder, cone, or a face of the part. The groove shape, or at least a significant part of it, will be in the shape of the cutting tool.
What is knurling on a lathe?
Knurling is a manufacturing process, typically conducted on a lathe, whereby a pattern of straight, angled or crossed lines is rolled into the material.
What is taper turning on a lathe?
Lathe Operations. | Taper Turning. October 21, 2009. Taper Turning: The taper turning is an operation of producing a conical surface by gradual reduction in the diameter of a cylindrical work piece
